Day-by-Day Itinerary
Welcome Tanzania: Briefing & Gear Preparation
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our company representative and transferred comfortably to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. This is your time to relax, recover from your flight, and prepare mentally for the adventure ahead on Mount Kilimanjaro.
In the evening or the following morning, depending on your arrival time, you will meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed briefing. During this session, our company will walk you through the full itinerary, safety procedures, weather expectations, and final gear check. Any missing equipment can be arranged through our rental service to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb.
Lemosho Gate (2,100m) → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)
Distance: 7 km | 3–4 hours
Your journey begins at Lemosho Gate where registration is completed before entering the rainforest zone. The trail is peaceful, shaded, and rich with natural beauty. You walk slowly through ancient trees, fresh air, and occasional wildlife sightings. This first day is intentionally gentle, allowing your body to start adjusting to altitude without pressure. By the time you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, your luxury tents are already set and warm meals are served.
Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) → Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
Distance: 16 km | 7–8 hours
This is one of the longest trekking days, but also one of the most rewarding. You leave the rainforest behind and enter open moorland where the landscape becomes wider and more dramatic. The air becomes thinner as you gain altitude steadily. You pass Shira 1 area and continue across the Shira Plateau until you reach Shira 2 Camp. This day is very important for acclimatization and is done at a slow, controlled pace to ensure comfort and safety.
Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Distance: 10 km | 6–7 hours
Today is a key acclimatization stage known as “climb high, sleep low.” You ascend gradually to Lava Tower at 4,630 meters where your body experiences higher altitude conditions. After lunch and rest, you descend to Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters. This process helps your body adapt better and greatly improves summit success chances. The scenery becomes more dramatic with alpine desert views and unique vegetation.
Barranco Camp (3,960m) → Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Distance: 6 km | 4–6 hours
The day begins with the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical climb that looks intimidating but is very achievable with guide support. Once at the top, you are rewarded with stunning panoramic views. The trail then continues with gentle ups and downs toward Karanga Camp. Although the distance is short, the altitude keeps the body active, making this an important recovery and acclimatization day.
Karanga Camp (4,035m) → Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Distance: 4 km | 3–4 hours
You continue ascending steadily toward Barafu Camp, your final base before the summit attempt. The environment becomes cold, rocky, and more extreme, showing you are now in high alpine zone. Upon arrival, you rest, hydrate, and prepare your equipment. Your guide provides a detailed briefing for the midnight summit, including pacing, safety, and expectations for the climb.
: Barafu Camp (4,640m) → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Distance: 17 km | 10–14 hours
This is the most challenging and most rewarding day. Around midnight, you begin your summit push in freezing temperatures and darkness. Slowly and steadily, you climb toward Stella Point as the sunrise begins to appear, then continue to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is an emotional and unforgettable achievement. After celebrations and photos, you descend back to Barafu for rest, then continue all the way down to Mweka Camp for overnight recovery.
Mweka Camp (3,100m) → Mweka Gate (1,640m) → Moshi (900m)
Distance: 10 km | 3–4 hours
Your final descent takes you through lush rainforest once again, giving you a completely different experience from the summit environment. You walk down slowly to Mweka Gate where you receive your summit certificate as proof of your achievement. From there, you are transferred back to Moshi where you can rest, celebrate, and prepare for departure.
Your Departure Day: Back Home/ Another Destinations
